
Cessnock Cobras
The Cessnock Cobras Representative Program is a competitive basketball program open to all participants who have the commitment, ability and desire to compete at a higher level.





Representative Overview
Trials
A series of 'Prep for Rep' coaching sessions are held prior to formal representative trials, followed by 2 trial sessions before teams are announced.

Season
Training commences in January with the season running from March through to August.
Preseason tournaments at either Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour or Central Coast may be attended prior to this at Coach & Board discretion.

Teams
The Junior Representative Program enters teams in the Waratah Eastern Junior League (EJL) from Under 12s to Under 18s for boys and girls. Some teams may apply to trial and enter the Waratah Junior Premier League, where games are held in metro centres.
A team of 10 is selected from the Cessnock Basketball trials. Some age groups may offer development positions where players will have the opportunity to train with the team and improve their skills.

Trainings
Training session are usually 1.5-2 hour once or twice a week, coaches will discuss availability with their team to find the best suitable times.

Games
Generally representative games are played over a full weekend each month with 3-5 games being played, teams from around the state play each other with an opportunity to make the finals held at the end of July.
There are typically 4 rounds held in regional areas, including Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle, Lismore, Tamworth for teams playing in the Eastern Junior League. Teams playing in the Junior Premier League play in Newcastle, Sydney and Illawara.

Fees
The average cost per player is $850/player, not including uniform, travel or accomodation expenses. Teams are encouraged to fundraise to reduce individual player costs.

BNSW Representative Pathway
Representative basketball at Cessnock Basketball is a pathway into other Basketball NSW programs for aspiring and elite athletes.
Camps, clinics and high-performance team trials are available for those athletes looking to play at a state or national level.
